![]() I'd even be willing to see what this show could do with Sherlock Holmes - despite all the current pop culture iterations of the character out there sparking endless online debate. Jekyll would fit in perfectly, as would the Invisible Man. So Season 2 could benefit from a bit of world expansion. Hyde and SeekGiven that Penny Dreadful is part luscious love letter to League of Extraordinary Gentleman, we know that there are more era-appropriate horror characters out there. With many of our expectations being pleasantly twisted and subverted. So we're very much looking forward to how Penny Dreadful portrays this "Master." The show's track record with iconic gothic literary characters has been spotless so far. And if we know anything about Malcolm, it's that he doesn't rest when there's unfinished business. So while the search for Mina has come to a close, the search for this Master might be about to begin. In the Season 1 finale, Malcolm discovered the hard way that the vampire he was seeking was not "The Master." And was not the one in control of Mina. He's obviously out and about (well, when the sun's not shining), known by another name entirely. And as some suspected, Dracula wasn't going to be a foul, hibernating bald vampire taking shelter in abandoned plague ships and theater rafters. fell out of sight after meeting a mysterious foreign nobleman. The Count CountsMina was supposedly happily engaged to a man named Jonathan Harker and then. "You came to the wrong neighborhood, motherf***er." I suppose this is something that we'd love to happen eventually. Season 2 is longer than Season 1, but only by two episodes. Still though, could this be too much of a rush for Season 2 given the way the show holds back on revelations and pays things off at its own pace? Perhaps. And that means everyone learning about everyone. If Dracula is truly being built up as the series' grand antagonist (which I love) then it's going to take everyone pooling their powers to bring him down. Because, as I mentioned in one of my reviews, if both The Devil and Dracula want her, they're going to be at odds. And perhaps Vanessa, who looks like she's on the road to accepting the literal Devil inside of her, could come to use her inner-demon as a weapon. Dorian didn't use (what I'm assuming is) his immortality and knack for instant healing. ![]() Caliban didn't enter the fray and rip monsters apart with his scientifically souped-up strength. So while Malcolm, Ethan, Vanessa and Victor came together to battle vampires - they did while not knowing each others' secrets. ![]() ![]() But we also know that the show goes by its own pace and doesn't rush to provide fan service. And we definitely heard the revving of the "team-up" engine in Season 1 whenever our main characters went out on a Mina hunt. League It UpJohn Logan has fully admitted that Alan Moore's The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was a big influence on the premise. I think Ethan's proven to be more than a trick-shooting one-trick pony. So how about an entire episode devoted to pre-London Ethan? In the same way "Closer Than Sisters" explored Vanessa's relationship with the Murray family and her time in the asylum. And - oh yeah - how he's able to perform a quick, intense exorcism at the drop of a demonic dime. Not just the wolf part, but his role in the Indian Wars. American Werewolf in LondonWhile the season finale reveal of Ethan being a werwolf didn't come as a surprise to everyone, there's still a lot of story to explore here. Here's what we want from Penny Dreadful Season 2. If Season 1 was about trying to rescue Mina, then a big part of Season 2 could most likely be about Malcolm wanting revenge on "the Master." Let's dig in, hold hands for a séance, and dream big. Caliban's about to be eternally paired with Brona and Dorian probably has a lot of moping to do after being rejected by Vanessa. And Ethan's been tearing up the town, literally, as a wolf. ![]()
